pager danger

I have the urge to make a call or get up and leave my desk right now. The urge is very strong because I just paged someone. Yeah, remember beepers? We still use them in healthcare. Don't ask me why. I consider pagers a thing of the past, archaic. They belong in a time capsule from the 90's, somewhere alongside my AquaNet, walkman, and over-sized flannel shirts.

I just sent a text-page. And the moment I hit "send" I reeeeeally needed to make a phone call. I remembered that I need to be available for the return call and had to wait patiently by the phone. I am totally unable to be productive right now due to this pager problem and my lack of motivation. I page and therefore I wait. And therefore I post.

Well, I guess if I use my mad AP Calculus skills I would come up with this equation:

Paging + Waiting crippled at my desk = Blog posting + Cosine[Tangent] + Good times

And I thought me and my team were the last ones to still be using pagers. But yes, the healthcare industry still uses them.

And they suck fat man flap.

Well, at least the long wait gave you time to blog!

What segment of healthcare do you work in (what a terribly constructed sentence I typed there...).

I'm shocked that I haven't yet blogged about my pager because i TOTALLY feel your pain. I am in marketing and we have pagers, for what a MARKETING EMERGENCY? Really now. Actually it's for media on-call so it makes a little more sense, but I feel so lame carrying it around.

LOVE this post.

Although it's prob annoying for you...it's still kind of amazing that you have a pager ;-)

Sad news... So long as there's broke, stylish women and 99 cent stores, there will ALWAYS be Aquanet. Over-sized flannel shirts are making a big, big comback... watch! From one Uptown girl to another, I'm really feeling your blog!

I quite like the nostalgia that comes with beepers. Beepers remind me of a time when communication technology wasn’t all about how powerful the camera was on your phone, or how quickly you could get through Temple Run. It was just about getting the message across. I miss having a beeper of my own!

The health care industry really needs this. I mean, it would be easier for them to contact the nurse or doctor, whenever the patients need them. This also promotes a good camaraderie among the employees of the facility because of the fact that it's easier to communicate with each other in order to do the task quicker.
